Orcas Mystery Solved

Since early 2022, orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar have been engaging with sailboats, sometimes causing damage by bumping rudders and keels, leading to the sinking of several vessels. Initially thought to be attracted by black anti-fouling paint, researchers found the behavior to be playful, driven by young orcas learning and mimicking each other.

US Coast Guard Boat

2024 Recreational Boating Statistics

The Coast Guard released it’s “2023 Recreational Boating Statistics” and the recent report reveals an 11.3% decrease in fatalities (from 636 in 2022 to 564) and a 4.9% decline in overall incidents (from 4,040 to 3,844). Non-fatal injuries also dropped by 4.3% to 2,126.
