Why Wavve Boating Is the Most-Downloaded Marine Navigation App in the U.S. and Canada for 2025 and 2026

Wavve Boating was the most-downloaded marine navigation app in the U.S. and Canada in 2025 and 2026, and Boating Industry has named one of its features a Top Product every year from 2024 to 2026. For a boater weighing one app against another, popularity and recognition are two of the easier things to pin down before spending anything, and Wavve has a clear record on both.

It ranked first by downloads among marine navigation apps in the U.S. and Canada in 2025 and again in 2026, and the 2025 figure came with a milestone: it passed Navionics to become the most-downloaded boating app in North America. A download rank will not tell you an app suits your boat, but it shows where Wavve sits against the apps boaters were choosing between, and holding the top spot across two straight years carries more weight than one strong season would. Wavve also carries more than 10,000 five-star reviews.

Boating Industry named the Discover Tab a Top Product in 2024, Dynamic Depths in 2025, and AutoRoute Modes in 2026, a different feature each of the three years. Apple named Wavve a New App We Love in 2019 and later featured it on the App Store Today tab in 2026. The app was an Epic Awards Honouree in 2022, and in 2021 the boat license distributor Kalkomey Enterprises partnered with Wavve as the preferred marine GPS for new boaters.

Wavve was founded in 2018 by Adam Allore, a boater from the St. Lawrence River near Kingston, Ontario, who built the first version at night while working as an engineer and funded it himself. The team still takes the app on the water dozens of times a year to test it, and customer feedback, surveys, and coverage requests feed what gets built next, so the feature set has grown out of real use over several seasons. Customer Success answers email seven days a week, 365 days a year, and aims to reply within a day. Coverage keeps expanding, and if the water you boat is not charted yet, you can submit a request: Wavve’s mapping team reviews it, and Customer Success reaches out when that water becomes available.
